Dr. Dominique Decouchant is a Research Scientist at CNRS (french National Center for Scientific Research). He is a member of LSR-IMAG laboratory in Grenoble, France. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Grenoble (France) in 1987. He worked on the design and implementation of object-oriented distributed systems and distributed cooperative document editing on Internet ("Alliance" project). His current research interests include Web distributed cooperative authoring environment and middleware support for this kind of applications.

He is working on the PIÑAS platform which provides means for supporting cooperative authoring on the Web. More, using the services provided by this platform, he is designing and developping the AllianceWeb cooperative authoring application that allows several users to produce shared Web documents in a consistent and controlled way. PIÑAS provides several interesting distributed features: author identification, document and resource naming, document composition and management, document replication, consistency, and storage. These features are based on the definition of basic concepts (users, documents, resources, and services) needed in a cooperative environment as the World Wide Web will is moving to.
